Wednesday
saw a new twist to the Kier 2020 Challenge with a Mountain Bike Challenge being
held at the awesome Glentress trails. Following a phenomenal effort from the
EALC team in getting the baton to Peebles a team of Mountain Bikers (some more
experienced than others) took to the hills – including a team from one of our
M&E consultants Ramboll. The teams of two had 2hrs in which to navigate the
trails and score as many checkpoints as possible, all in the style of
orienteering. Any teams arriving after the 2hr deadline were penalised….the
pressure was on.
The
racing snake team from team Ramboll (surely they were ringers!) came in first
with a whopping 237 points (after a couple of penalties), with Dan Perris and
Andy McTavish a very close second. A special commendation to Stewart Hare and
Mani Ferguson who didn’t come last - it was the first time Mani had
ridden off-road. After the riding there was plenty of opportunity to compare
notes on lung busting climbs and huge air over lunch in the Peel Café.
Stay
posted to the blog as Phil McDowell has put together a short film of the riding
– well worth a watch.
After
the fun and frolics of the Mountain Biking it was back down to business with a
(relatively) short 30 mile blast to Hawick and a meeting with the Newcastle
team. Despite a few sneaky bigger than expected climbs….damn you Google maps!
The course was completed in short order….and in blazing sunshine (sorry EALC
guys).
Its
unbelievable to think that we are now 2/3rds of the way through the Scotland
& North East leg & we have covered around 1500 miles
