A soaring start for Gloucester!

May 26th marked the start of the Kier Gloucester 120 mile journey through the bountiful hills of Malvern, the ski slopes of Gloucester and the cobbled streets of Oxford.

Launching the three day event at Herefordshire Council's Blue School House, our superhero cyclists complete with both Batman (John) and Superman (Phil) were off to a rapid start. Conquering 23 miles across scenic routes of Hereford the flamboyantly dressed team were sure to attract attention as they reached their destiny (leg two),  Colwall Church of England Primary School.

Leg one cyclists (left to right): Nikki, Phil, Peter, Simon, John JP and James (missing: Alistaire)

On your marks, get set, go...  Children from Colwall Church of England Primary School flooded to the park as they eagerly awaited the arrival of the 2020 challenge baton.  The action packed
morning was filled with tug of war challenges and group relay races. Finally the baton was passed through the hands of 180 school children before it descended on leg two of today's journey.

As the sun soared so did the challenge, the leg two team hit the ground running (excuse the pun) tackling the picturesque Malvern Hills.  Lead by our Gloucester Office Operations Director - Ben Ramsay, our runners battled through 7 miles of rambling countryside in the sweltering 28 degree heat as they sped through the finish line at Holly bush.

Leg two runners (left to right): James, Ben, Joe and Jake

The return of Batman and Superman marked leg three of four, and the baton was passed back to our superhero cyclists as they travelled a further 23 miles to Cleeve School.

Leg three cyclists (left to right):  John L, James, Superman (Phil) and Batman (John PB)

50 miles down the 2020 challenge took a bumpy turn as we saw the arrival of the wheelbarrows.  The challenger of the day, James Clarke, who participated in all four legs took a much needed rest as he was pushed three miles across the streets of Cheltenham.  With just enough time for a quick pit stop at Cheltenham Racecourse we reached our final destination the Brewery Cheltenham, distinguishing the end of day one.

Well done team Gloucester for a tremendous start to their 2020 Challenge!
