Birmingham were
handed the baton from our Nottingham colleagues yesterday morning, as the 2020
challenge continues its 175 mile journey through the Central region, raising
money for our local nominated charity Acorns Children’s Hospice and the
Kier Foundation charity this year ‘Alzheimer’s’.
Our budding
Bradley Wiggins impersonators jumped on their cycles at Elliot Fields in Rugby
for Leg 1, a 20 mile trip to our Sherbourne construction site at University of
Warwick, where they handed the baton over to our next cycle team to take it 18
miles onwards to Tungsten for Leg 2. Bradley Wiggins would be proud of their
efforts!
The team at
Tungsten had organised a mini sports day, with sack races, three-legged races
and the great space hopper challenge – they even organised glorious sunshine
for the event too! Our eagle eyed referee Tracey had to issue a few fund-raising
penalties for what some may describe as cheating, but all in good spirits. A
delicious cake sale, raffle and prizes were enjoyed by all and plenty of
donations were gathered.
The baton departed Tungsten with our runners and they raced off towards Knowle Locks with Leg 3 underway.
When they reached Knowle Locks the baton passed into canoes and they paddled off towards Birmingham city centre. For the final few miles they were joined by Stuart and the team to walk into Birmingham city centre, completing the 12 mile final leg of day 1.
